Prof. Dr. Nico Nassenstein

Project Leader

Nico Nassenstein is Professor of African Studies at the Institute of Ethnology and African Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and project manager of the Mainz sub-project together with Dr. Hauke Dorsch. In his work, he focuses primarily on Bantu languages in Central and East Africa from an ethnolinguistic and sociolinguistic perspective. A key focus of his work is on Lingala, a contact language from Congo, which he has researched during several field research stays in Central Africa. In the project, he is primarily responsible for linguistic questions in the context of Congolese rumba music.
