From 21-23 November 2024, an internal project workshop took place at the Archive for African Music (AMA) at JGU Mainz. Following the largely completed digitization phase, this workshop initiated the research phase of the project and primarily served to create synergies between the three subprojects. The invited international scholars Prof. Dr. Alena Rettová (University of Bayreuth), Prof. Dr. Christopher Y. Mtaku (University of Maiduguri), Prof. Dr. Ibrahima Wane (Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar) and Prof. Dr. Léon Tsambu (University of Kinshasa) enriched the workshop with stimulating presentations and great expertise. Guided tours – including through the fascinating collection of the AMA – provided additional impulses, and shared dinners contributed to further networking even after the conclusion of the workshop's formal program, especially for the research associates who had joined the project over the course of the year.
