Workshop “Shared Heritage and Digital Repatriation”, Mainz 12-14.11.2025

From November 12-14, 2025, a workshop organized by the KOSTIMA project entitled "Shared Heritage and Digital Repatriation" took place at JGU Mainz. The workshop focused on the ethical handling of the respective digitized archive materials. The workshop began on 12.11. with a public part consisting of keynote speeches by Prof. Dr. Joachim Goma-Thethet (Université Marien Ngouabi, Brazzaville), Dr. Yoel Finkelman (Yad Vashem, Jerusalem) and Prof. Dr. Abba Isa Tijani (National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Nigeria), followed by a round table discussion. On the following day, the focus was on the status reports from the individual Subprojects on the state of research, which were commented on by the invited guests and then discussed in plenary. On the last day, moderated by Vanessa von Gliszcynski from the Weltkulturen Museum Frankfurt, the course was set for the planned exhibition of the project in 2027. The workshop program was framed by interesting insights into the holdings of the AMA, the Jewish Library Mainz by Prof. Dr. Andreas Lehnhardt and the ethnographic study collection of the Institute of Ethnology and African Studies.
